Day Three

1. Date: Wednesday 4th May 2011
Time: 9.30am until 5.00pm
Total hours worked: 7.5 hours

2.
a) Uniform= 5
b) Punctuality= 5
c) Initiative= 5
d) Cooperation= 5
e) Work Standard= 5
f) Development of Skills= 4

3. Today at workplacement it was only Melissa and myself as Ally and
Annalise had to be at school. I was allocated to be the announcer
for the whole of the exhibition so i was in charge of informing exhibitors
and visitors when the seminars were on and other announcements. In
between making announcements, we had to hang out showbags and also
use the scanners to scan peoples name tags.

4. Today I used a microphone to make announcements and a scanning
device to collect visitors information.

5. The employability skills that we used today was communication and
technology. When given the scanning device we had to become
familiar with it and figure out how to use it and what exactly that it does.
Communication skills became extremely important when having to make
announcements and communicate with the visitors in order to scan their
name tags. We had to be polite and professional in order to communicate
effectively with visitors.

6. We only faced the challenge of standing on our feet for 7 hours straight
which did not teach us anything.

7. The thing that was most enjoyable about today was the we got to
communicate with many visitors and exhibitors.

8. For tomorrow, all four of us will be at workplacement together and
will most probably be doing the same thing ie. scanning visitors name
tags and making announcements.

Day Two

1. Date: Tuesday 3rd May 2011
Time: 9.30am until 5.00pm Total hours worked 7.5 2. a) Uniform= 5 b) Punctuality= 5 c) Initiative= 4 d) Cooperation= 5 e) Work Standard= 5 f) Development of Skills= 4 3. Today we just did little jobs around the exhibition. The first one we did was taking boxes and bags to the store room whilst moving things around from one stand to another. We then had to move boxes of lanyards from the store room to the front desk and took about 900 of them out of separate clear bags and put them into a box. With all of us working together, it took us not long to do. We then had to set up posters at different
places around the exhibition. After we did that we had to look through boxes,
put show bags together, packed boxes and separated from show bags from
the right ones. At the end of the day just before we went home we had to
sit in on a meeting about OH&S and about the safety procedures for the exhibition.
4. The tools used today were; a stanley knife and a tape dispenser to open and close boxes. 5. The employability skills that we required at work placement today were
Communication, Teamwork, Problem Solving and learning. Communication
and teamwork were used a lot today especially when we had to put together
the posters. Communication was also used when we were separating the
lanyards and taking them out of the bags as well as putting together all
the show bags and sorting through all the show bags boxes. Problem solving
was used when we had to pack all the shows bags due to the fact that we
had to do it in an ordered manner and had to come up with a plan to solve
this situation. For our last activity of the day which was the meeting; we took
down some notes and found out some information that was very important
which is where the employability skill learning took place. 6. I did not come across at difficulties or new issues that challenged me at my
work placement today. 7. The thing that was most enjoyable today was that we got to do something that
was different to what we did yesterday, it made us feel involved in the exhibition.
The meeting was really good as we got a good understanding of the procedures
and we got treated we respect and like we werent school students but were
actually exhibitors.
8. Tomorrow is the first day of the show so we will have a lot of work to do.
We will be handing out show bags as well as walking around the exhibition with
handheld scanners that when their name tag is scanned it will collect their
information.

Day One

1. Date: Monday 2nd May 2011Time: 9.30am until 5.00pm
Total of 7 hours (30min break)

2.
a) Uniform= 5
b) Punctuality= 5
c) Initiative= 5
d) Cooperation= 5
e) Work Standard= 5
f) Development of Skills= 3

3. Due to it being our first day today, when we first arrived we had a 30 minute briefing about what tasks and duties we would complete over the week, got some background information on the company and what exhibition was. We got given a personal manual each which we went through during the briefing which told us everything that was happening and also included a map of the exhibition. We then got given jobs to do, Anna and Ally went around to all the exhibitors and gave them each a letter, whilst I sat and looked after the reception desk where exhibitors could come and collect their exhibition pa
cks, name tags and allocated parking passes. We all t
hen went back up to the organiser's office and had to make a box in which exhibitors put their business cards in which entitled them to go in the draw to win a prize. To make this box we had to use a stanley knife and a tap gun/dispenser. We then had to unpack and move boxes filled with equipment needed for the exhibition. Next we had to assemble posters and advertisements for particular companies. Another job we had to do was use a microphone to make announcements which informed workers and exhibitors of certain things. The last job we had to do was use a certain computer program to print off exhibitor name tags which had a special barcode on them which would later be scanned.

4. The tools that we used today were; a stanley knife, tape dispenser/gun and a microphone.

5. The first activity that i had to complete involving employability skills was looking after the reception desk and communicating with exhibitors to hand out the packs. We had to communicate with them in order to find out what company they were from and how many name tags and parking passes they need. Another skill we learnt was technology; we had to use computers which required us to gain knowledge abo
ut the program we had to use.

6. A difficulty that came across today was when certain comp
anies had not sent in their list of names for name tags to be made and therefore had no name tags made. We had to work together as a team to get a list of names of the exhibitors in order to get their name tags printed quickly.
7. The thing i enjoyed about today was there was a range of activities/tasks for us to do so we werent just doing the same thing for the whole day.

8. Tomorrow we will be doing them same thing as to
day, which was just organising and preparing everything f
or the exhibition which goes over three days.

Work Placement

In Term 2, I will be going on work placement to complete my 35 hours of out of school experience for entertainment.

Whilst on work placement I expect to further my knowledge with the entertainment industry in regards to all the different elements and aspects of it. I want to experience things that we haven't already experienced in class or other work experience to help us learn about everything. It should be hard and require us to do a lot of work which in return helps us receive the experience that we need. I would like to experience using equipment that i'm unfamiliar to and that i've never had the opportunity to use. I'd like to be able to work towards being able to work on a production and not need assistance 24/7. The place where we complete work placement should interest us in order to make it a fun and educational experience.
