All of the year 12 entertainment class were in charge of making sure that gala day ran smoothly and without any problems. Brie was the backstage manager while Jenna and I were in charge of getting everyone on and off the stage. Lila was assisting Brie with the curtains along with making sure everyone was getting on stage okay. Maree, Sarah, Elicia and Maren were upstairs controlling the lighting for the stage for the whole performance, while Karly and Aimee were in the biobox controlling all of the music and videos for the performers.

Entertainment

JMC Academy Showcase

On Tuesday the 16th of November, our Year 12 Entertainment class went to the Enmore Theatre in Newtown to watch a showcase that was put on by a number of uni students from the JMC Academy. We saw a variety of elements found in the entertainment business that we were able to experience for ourselves how they work in a showcase.

Audio 4/5
Visual 4/5
Lighting 5/5
Staging 4/5
Venue 5/5

The audio in the showcase was at a good level although there were a few technical difficulties at the start which caused the audience to wait a bit longer to watch the showcase until the audio was fixed. The video related to the showcase was really good although the screen was too high up on the stage and hurt your neck when looking at it continually. The lighting design for the showcase was created really well and looked good with whatever performance was happening. The staging was set out quite well although there were chords and speakers everywhere leaving little room for the performers and hosts to move around the stage. The Venue was really nice and old style, although it wasnt very big it still suited the needs of the showcase and seated the audience without it being crowded.

Evaluation of assessment task;

Part of our entertainment assessment was to perform a practical task in groups of three. In my group there was Grace Maroon, Chrissy Gabor and myself. The task was to turn on, operate and turn off the school PA system and turn on, operate and turn off and small PA system.

The three of us worked together as a team and communicated well to get the job done correctly and efficiently. Whilst setting up the small PA system, it was my job to connect the speakers to the AMU and make sure they worked correctly. The only difficulty my group had doing this was that one of my group members accidentally turned off the power supply before we had properly unpacked everything. Once redoing the task, my group performed it correctly. Each group member helped the other two to complete their tasks and we had good communication will allowed for minimum difficulties.

When setting up the school PA system, my job was to turn on and operate the lectern mic and the handhelp mic while chrissy set up the microphone stand and the UHF1 microphone and grace was working in the bio box. I felt that my group had good communication skill doing this as chrisy and I communicate dwell with grace telling her when the microphones needed to be turned up and so on. We only had minor difficulties doing this such as the handheld mic needed the battery changed and the chord of the UHF1 microphone kept getting tangled which took a while to untangle.

OH&S issues which could have occurred:
- trip hazards- ie. Chords being tangled
- volume hazards- ie. Sound being too loud
- electrical harzards- ie. Things not being connected properly
- wet floor surface in hall- ie. Hall roof leaking onto stage

I think my group performed both practical tasks quite well even with minor difficulties and there is always room for improvement next time we have to perform such a task. To improve our next practical assessment, we could swap the roles around allowing everyone to operate different things so we all know how to work them.

Production elements

Microphones: These help the audience in hearing the actors so they dont have to scream or talk loudly whilst performing.

Stage Lighting: This helps to create a certain mood or help emphasize whatever is going on in the scene.

Personal Props: These help to bring the character to life and help to express whatever they are doing, ie. playing football.

Stage props: These helped to liven up the small stage area that the cast and crew had to work on. Many of the props were used to help the audience see what was going on in the play just by looking at the stage.

Makeup: It helped to create the 80's look on the characters and helped to create the 80's mood for the production.

Musical

First musical performance was really exciting to watch as so much hard work and effort had gone into the producing of it. All the cast members were really good even though most of them were nervous. Tonight and tomorrows performances should be just as fun and exciting :)
